A couple of the girls and I decided to head to London for our free weekend. We had an amazing time exploring the city, and saw Big Ben, the London Eye, and Buckingham Palace. We did some shopping at Harrod’s, which was the most beautiful mall I have ever seen, and we ate at the famous Wok to Walk, where you can get a great stir fry to go.
The English accents were a lot of fun, and if I’m being honest it was a relief to avoid a language barrier for awhile. The city was different from Paris in many other ways as well. Shops were open later, and the city was alive until about 3am on Friday and Saturday night. There were so many things to do within walking distance of our Airbnb which made exploring a ton of fun.
The best part was accidentally stumbling upon the Changing of the Guard. We arrived at Buckingham Palace about 5 minutes before trumpets started playing and the gates opened. All of a sudden there were guards marching out. They marched down the road to another building and performed the ceremony. It was really cool to see. Our taxi driver later told us that this only happens once every other day during the winter, so it was definitely our lucky day!
